Musethica

We take classical music beyond the concert hall, bringing live music to diverse audiences and transforming the way future musicians are trained.

The project

Musethica brings together artistic excellence and social commitment: it takes classical concerts performed by young musicians into social, healthcare and community centres. It is a collaboration between ESMUC and Apropa Cultura.

The barriers it breaks down

Barriers to accessing culture

Concerts for groups that are often left outside the usual cultural circuits.

Physical barriers

The music reaches care homes, day hospitals, mental health centres and social organisations.

Barriers between culture and community

We connect artistic training, musical performance and social commitment to build community.

Model

The concert is an essential part of the learning: over an intensive week, young performers give concerts in real and unconventional settings.

Milestones reached

  • 9 editions of the Musethica project held in Barcelona with ESMUC.
  • More than 40 students and graduates taking part in the Barcelona editions.
  • Close to 80 free concerts performed.
  • Participation in the European project 1000+ Concerts.

The process

ESMUC provides the training context; Musethica, an international methodology; and Apropa Cultura, knowledge of the area and the relationship with social organisations.
